Naples police officers took on an unusual task when they rescued an injured owl outside the police department.

The department said in a Facebook post that officers on the night shift early Sunday morning discovered the owl, which appeared to have been struck by a vehicle.

Officers placed the bird in a container and transported it to the Conservancy of Southwest Florida for evaluation and treatment.

“Serving and protecting all of Naples residents, including the wildlife!” the department wrote in its post.

The owl’s condition has not yet been updated.
