Fort Myers man sentenced to 2 years in prison for possessing marijuana, firearm

A Fort Myers man has been sentenced to two years and six months in prison for possessing marijuana with intent to distribute and a firearm as a person with felony convictions.

According to the state attorney’s office, the court also ordered 34-year-old Warren Gregory Edwards to forfeit the Smith & Wesson firearm involved in the offense. 

Edwards pleaded guilty on Dec. 5.

According to court documents, Edwards was stopped by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies for driving without a seatbelt.

The deputies smelled marijuana, searched the car and found a Smith & Wesson handgun and numerous bags of marijuana.

The majority of the marijuana was in a large, clear plastic bag. They also found several new, empty, smaller bags. There was also a scale and cup with marijuana residue.

Edwards, who is prohibited from possessing a firearm from his convictions for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and in possession, admitted to owning the marijuana and firearm.
