My career in television news has taken me all across the country and allowed me to cover everything from mountain snow events in Rocky Mountain West, to severe weather outbreaks in the Mid-Atlantic, to hurricanes. The most memorable weather event I covered as an on-air meteorologist was Hurricane Dorian's landfall along the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 2019.

Warm, dry Tuesday; rain chances increase late in the week

Dry weather persists Tuesday as high pressure remains off-shore, with highs set to warm into the 90s for more of Southwest Florida. As high pressure slides east over the next couple of days, we’ll get one more day of completely dry weather before rain chances begin to increase Thursday. This will be ahead of a […]

Humidity, temperatures drop after Thursday’s cold front

After the rain and thunderstorms brought by Thursday’s cold front, we’ll get to settle into a dry weekend of cooler conditions for Southwest Florida. Humidity will drop throughout the day on Friday with dew points set to fall into the 40s by the afternoon, resulting in very comfortable conditions. With cooler air continuing to move […]

Isolated storms Thursday, along with severe weather threat

All eyes are on the next cold front set to pass through Southwest Florida Thursday night. Ahead of the front, look for a warm, humid and windy day for Thursday. Highs will climb back into the upper 80s to lower and mid-90s by the afternoon, with the humidity leading to a heat index between 94 […]

Near-record heat Tuesday with a lower chance for storms

After an active day of severe thunderstorms Monday, Tuesday will be much quieter. While a few storms will be possible inland, the good majority of the Southwest Florida viewing area won’t see any rain — or thunderstorms, for that matter — Tuesday afternoon. It will be a hot one, however! Highs will climb close to […]

Scattered storms Monday afternoon prompted Severe Thunderstorm Warnings

A front stalled across the Cape Sable area will lift north Monday, providing the “kick” needed to get more showers and storms going by Monday afternoon. We’ll have to watch out for a low-end severe threat Monday, with a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe storms across the southern two-thirds of the Southwest […]

Unsettled weather pattern returns for Friday and the weekend

After a dry, hot, and breezy week of weather, we’ll get some needed relief to the heightened fire danger that we’ve experienced for the past several days this weekend. A front moving in from the north will stall across the Lake Okeechobee area beginning Friday into Saturday. This will bring the return of higher humidity […]

Windy day Thursday before rain chances return Friday

Gear up for another windy day of weather Thursday. Winds will pick up ahead of an approaching cold front through the afternoon. Look for winds sustained between 15 to 25 mph out of the south-southwest with gusts of up to and over 30 mph. Dry weather persists through Thursday for one more day with highs […]

Record heat on tap for Tuesday

Get ready for a hot day on Tuesday. After some patchy fog in the morning, we’ll see plenty of sunshine through the afternoon. With a dry air mass in place, we’ll warm up quickly, with highs climbing into the 90s for many. In fact, Fort Myers is on track to tie a record, with a […]

Dry weather persists Monday; Monitoring elevated fire danger risk

After a beautiful weekend of weather, dry weather will continue into midweek as high pressure continues to build across the area both aloft and at the surface. One of the things we’ll be monitoring over the next two to three days will be a risk for elevated fire danger, thanks to the dry air that […]

Sunshine returns Friday and through the weekend with a breeze

Clouds continue to blanket the area behind a cold front that moved through Southwest Florida overnight Thursday. A few quick moving light areas of rain will remain a possibility through Friday morning. Behind the front, drier air moving in will help erode Friday morning’s cloud deck and put an end to the rain chances from […]
