News Philosophy

The more you know about your community, the stronger and healthier it can become! That’s why I believe in local news - energizing and empowering a community is valuable. It can lead to meaningful change and a deeper understanding of your neighbors (allowing you to help them overcome the challenges they face, and share in their successes).

Hobbies, Interests & Community Involvement

Let’s lace up those sneakers, throw on some sunscreen, and get outside! Whether it’s hitting the pavement for a jog, strapping on a helmet and biking a new trail, or strolling through southwest Florida’s great outdoors - that’s where I want to be. Another interest? Cats! Don't ask me about mine unless you're prepared for a lengthy slideshow.

NCH doctors say up to 28% of its hospitalized COVID-19 patients have suffered cardiac injuries like blood clots, heart attacks, and fast and irregular heartbeats. Those injuries are connected to worse COVID-19 outcomes like ICU admission and death. The […]

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Monday abruptly reverted to its previous guidance about how coronavirus is transmitted, removing language about airborne transmission it had posted just days earlier. “A draft version of proposed changes to these recommendations was posted in error to the agency’s official website. Discovery during antibody testing could stop people from getting COVID

There’s a tiny molecule that neutralizes the coronavirus, as seen in testing on mice and hamsters. This discovery could be the key to preventing people from contracting the virus. Doctors Steven Shapiro and John Mellors with the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine are putting faith in a tiny antibody compound. AB8 could cause the […]

Teledentistry – the new type of dental appointment

Dentists agree that making sure you visit regularly is important. But making an in-person appointment during the pandemic could put your health at risk. Dentists’ offices are a place where droplets thrive. So, when the coronavirus pandemic first hit, offices across the United States closed. Now, with more personal protective equipment, temperature checks, and very strict […]

AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine trial paused due to adverse reaction in single patient

The pressure to have a COVID-19 vaccine out quickly is intense, but for front-runner AstraZeneca, trials have come to a stand-still. The reason? A single, unexplained illness in one vaccine volunteer. However, experts say situations like this aren’t uncommon. “This certainly happens in any large-scale trial where you have tens of thousands of people invested […]
