News Philosophy

The more you know about your community, the stronger and healthier it can become! That’s why I believe in local news - energizing and empowering a community is valuable. It can lead to meaningful change and a deeper understanding of your neighbors (allowing you to help them overcome the challenges they face, and share in their successes).

Hobbies, Interests & Community Involvement

Let’s lace up those sneakers, throw on some sunscreen, and get outside! Whether it’s hitting the pavement for a jog, strapping on a helmet and biking a new trail, or strolling through southwest Florida’s great outdoors - that’s where I want to be. Another interest? Cats! Don't ask me about mine unless you're prepared for a lengthy slideshow.

A new tool is being introduced by the FDA to cut down on the number of backlogged coronavirus tests and speed up the testing process altogether. Health officials worry about long-term effects of COVID-19 on kids

More than one-third of all kids tested for COVID-19 in the state are testing positive. It’s even higher in Lee County at 46%. Now, some health officials are sounding the alarm about the potential longer-term effects of this virus on our kids. Health experts say we still have a lot to learn. A warning from […]

Map projects likelihood of meeting someone with COVID-19

Gov. Ron DeSantis has reiterated it time and again: Don’t meet in groups of more than 10 people. But a new tool says that even in a group of 10, we have a nearly 50-50 chance of meeting someone with COVID-19. Charles Reid, a retired EMT and Naples resident, said that despite the pandemic, he […]

More businesses mandating masks as CDC calls for universal policy

Health experts say the science is sound: Masks help stop the spread of the coronavirus, and despite resistance to mandating their use, more businesses like Starbucks – and as of Monday, Walmart – are requiring customers to use them. “The time is now,” said Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and […]

High positivity rates of COVID-19 in children in SWFL

Many have seen the recent spike in coronavirus cases in Florida. “The numbers have definitely gone up over the past couple of weeks since things opened up in Florida,” said Dr. Nathan Landefeld, who works with kids at Physicians Primary Care. He says his patients are no different. “We’re seeing a percent positive with our […]

Lee Health says, for the first time ever, the hospital system is activating its pandemic surge plan. Hospitals still have some beds available, but they don’t currently have the staff for those beds. Lee Health is almost at 100% of its current staffed bed capacity. To help alleviate the situation, Lee Health is scaling back […]
