Work is just beginning for Estero, SWFL’s newest city

ESTERO. Fla.- Leaders in Estero say the work is just beginning. A historic decision was made less than 24 hours ago to make Estero the newest city in Southwest Florida.

Victory was declared after an overwhelming majority of it’s residents voted to make Estero it’s own city.

“It’s very rewarding we had so many people who saw what we saw in this,” said Nick Batos Chairman of the Estero Council of Community Leaders.

After a year and a half of planning, and thousands of dollars in campaigning, the work isn’t over, it’s just beginning.

“You can see the future is bright and there is a lot of opportunity in Estero right now,” said business owner Kevin Greenwell.

Big decisions will need to be made. One big one is who will be elected for council to represent the seven districts of the Village of Estero.

“This will be a government made up of our neighbors and our friends, right here,” said Batos.

WINK News is learning, leaders are working on putting together a list of issues the new council will face over the next year. Items on the list are where council will meet and how land and money will be used.

“We are here, we have a business here we should be able to voice how things should be and happen,” Greenwell told WINK News.

The incorporation of Estero could potentially bring in nine million dollars in revenue, while keeping more money in the area.

“When you look at the revenue side of it and the improvements based on revenue, it’s very good.”

Estero will vote on it’s council March 3rd.
