LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Residents living in what will soon be the Village of Estero, are learning more about what it will take to run their own community.

It was a packed house at the Estero Council of Community Leaders meeting Friday.

To help with the transition, some guest speakers met with the community. County commissioner Larry Kiker was present, as well as the county manager and attorney.

Residents also had an opportunity to express their opinions and concerns to the board and potential Estero leaders.

County leaders used this platform as an opportunity to listen and also educate the community on the challenges they may face ahead, noting they have a lot of work ahead of them.

“It’s a tremendous commitment in a town that’s already in place, where they just come in and they pick up. These folks are gonna be starting from the very beginning, there’s five other communities, already municipalities, I know those mayors and council folks are gonna help them out,” said Kiker.

County leaders also made it clear that as Estero transitions, they will not lose any county services unless the new council chooses to remove them.

Elections for the new council will be held in early March.
