Calling all artists! FGCU holds mascot-painting competition

Published: Updated:

FORT MYERS, Fla.- The FGCU mascot Azul, the eagle, is ready for a new look.

The university has ordered six plain white fiberglass statues of Azul to be painted.

They’ll be installed in prominent spots around the FGCU campus. The university is now looking for a few good artists!

Renderings will be accepted until January 19th, when the school will pock the top six designs.

The idea is modeled after the University of Iowa where the school has dozens of “Herky the Hawkeye” statues, not only around campus, but also around town. Winners each will receive $1,000 and will have their names displayed on plaques permanently affixed to the base of the statues.
