LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a traffic fatality that happened Friday night on Palm Beach Boulevard near Dusty Trail.

Deputies say a scooter driven by 32-year-old Marc Jacques was traveling east on Palm Beach when he was rear ended by a Lexus SUV driven by 18-year-old Caleb Black.

The Lexus dragged the scooter and Jacques for over 200 feet before coming to a final resting position.

Jacques was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office says witness statements stated they observed the Lexus at a high rate of speed and it appeared that Black was using a cell phone during the crash.

There were no signs of alcohol or drug impairment. The crash remains under investigation by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit.
