HOUSTON (AP) – Houston police say a father is accused of beating his 3-year-old son to death after the boy had potty training accidents.

Harris County jail records show 24-year-old Anthony Trakemon Powell was being held without bond Wednesday on a capital murder charge. His son died Friday at a hospital.

Powell’s sister, 23-year-old Prosha Land, was charged with injury to a child by omission. Investigators say Land witnessed the beatings.

Court records say Powell used his hands and belt to strike the boy when he wet himself. Land called 911 last Thursday when the boy had trouble breathing.

A prosecutor said at the bond hearing that Tristan’s 2-year-old brother was beaten and burned from scalding water but will recover.

Land’s bond is $260,000. Online jail records don’t list attorneys for the defendants.
