SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla.- A North Port man is under arrest on multiple charges in an investigation sparked by his excessive pawn history over the past few months.

Authorities began surveillance on 31-year-old Jesse Smith who has pawned 103 items since March.

Smith has more than a dozen prior arrests for crimes including burglary and dealing in stolen property and was just released from prison last year.

Deputies located the owners of some of the items Smith recently pawned and obtained two arrest warrants for him.

On Friday, officials say Smith tried to pawn a television and they took him into custody on the warrants.

Smith admitted stealing the TV from an unoccupied condo near his job site and took deputies to the home in Venice. Deputies contacted the Venice Police Department to respond to the scene who determined Smith entered through an unlocked sliding door.

Smith is charged with three counts of dealing in stolen property, three counts of providing false ownership information to a pawn broker and one count of residential burglary.

He’s being held on $36,500 bond. Additional charges are pending.
