BOSTON (AP) – Secretary of State John Kerry has been released from a hospital in his hometown of Boston after having surgery on a broken leg.

Kerry left Massachusetts General Hospital on crutches Friday afternoon. He told reporters he plans to return to Washington sometime next week after spending some recovery time at his home in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood.

Kerry broke his right femur on May 31 in a bicycle accident in France when he struck a curb in a parking lot and fell. He underwent surgery in Boston on June 2.

Kerry said that he spoke with President Barack Obama by phone on Thursday and that the administration is continuing to make progress on issues in the Middle East.
