ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say a grenade spotted outside a vacant Tampa Bay area home turned out to be a toy.

St. Petersburg police report that the Tampa Bomb Squad responded to the home around noon Tuesday. The object had been reported by a passerby.

The bomb squad inspected the device and determined that it was a non-explosive novelty item designed to look like a hand grenade. A news release says it was collected for disposal.
