FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Fort Myers Police Department is warning residents of a recent burglary trend in the area of McGregor Boulevard.

Police say a suspect or suspects are going around knocking on houses to see if they’re unoccupied. If the homeowner answers the door, the suspect simply makes up a reason for the contact. If no one is home, the suspect will then enter the house, usually through a back door.

Early Friday morning, FMPD began investigating a home burglary on Vesper Drive. The suspect was described as a black male, driving a white four door sedan. Residents are reminded to keep their doors locked at all times.

“Be cautious of unfamiliar vehicles backed into your neighbors’ driveways and always call law enforcement at the first sign of suspicious behavior or circumstances,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Victor Medico.

If you have any information, call FMPD at 239-321-7700, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS or text message C-R-I-M-E-S (274637) Keyword FMPD. Tipsters can remain anonymous. Anyone with information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the burglary suspects could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
