SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla. – Now in their 26th year, the J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge is once again celebrating Ding Darling Days.

Since Monday the refuge has been celebrating nature and “Lets Go Outside!” with daily events and educational seminars to mark the occasion, even celebrating Jay Norwood “Ding” Darling’s Birthday, the cartoonist who the refuge is named after.

The refuge invites the public out to learn and see wildlife that call Southwest Florida home and walk their hiking trails or drive/bike the 8 mile wildlife drive loop. Each weekday is a different themed day, Thursday is Calusa Day, Friday is Trails Day and Saturday is Conservation Art Day.

The first 50 kids on Saturday can have a cartoon drawn of them by cartoonist, Dave Horton and the first 200 will receive a free Ding Darling gift bag full of goodies from the wildlife refuge. Visitors can always visit the refuge and check out the free education and visitors center.
