FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Fifth Third Bank Broadway Series has returned to the Barbara B. Mann Preforming Arts Hall in Fort Myers with The Sound of Music debuting their Broadway season.

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical will bring you right back to 1930’s Austria, with an elegant set that transforms from the Nonnberg Abbey to Captain Georg von Trapp’s vast mountain estate, as more than 30 actors bring it to life with authentic costumes and custom props. Company Manager for the Sound of Music National Tour, Erik Birkeland took WINK News for a behind the scenes look and promises this show is sure to impress.

“What we represent on stage is really first class and of the period and representative, not only for the actors to feel that they’re wearing the appropriate clothes and to get into these roles,” said Birkeland.

More than 100 hand props accompany the iconic songs and choreography, as Prop Master Corey Kloos works to make everything from Maria’s guitar to the real bone china tea set as authentic to the period as possible, all the way down Captain von Trapp’s whistle.

“Which kind of represents the control he has over the children and his own stoic nature and how Maria teaches him, to sort of give up that control and bring happiness and music back into his life,” said Kloos.
