MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Two young men swam away unharmed after a small plane they were flying crashed in the ocean off a Florida beach.

Local news media outlets are citing Federal Aviation Administration officials as saying that the Piper PA-28 Cherokee crashed into the Atlantic Ocean about 60 yards off Haulover Beach Park just before noon Tuesday.

The media outlets quote lifeguard Marcel Lopez as saying that he was manning a tower when he saw the plane go into the water. He said he used a paddleboard to get out to the crash and found the two men already out of the plane and swimming. Lopez got the men on the paddleboard and back to shore.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Matthew Starling said neither man suffered any serious injuries.
