FMPD: Death of 26-year-old woman ruled a homicide

Published: Updated:

FORT MYERS, Fla.- The death of Heyzel Obando, 26, has been ruled a homicide two months after she was discovered dead, the Fort Myers Police Department said on Wednesday.

Obando’s body was found on Feb. 14 at her apartment on the 3600 block of Crestwood Lake Drive. Close friends said the mother of two was shot to death.

The medical examiner took weeks to determine the cause of Obando’s death but confirmed Wednesday that she died from a single gunshot wound to her head.

Obando’s friends believe her boyfriend, Earl Joiner, may know details about her death. He is in jail for violating his probation.

FMPD’s investigation is ongoing. No further details were immediately available.
