FORT MYERS, Fla. – A three-time convicted felon was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for possessing two assault rifles, the U.S. Department of Justice said Wednesday.

Tavares E. Felton, 41, was sentenced under the armed career criminal statute, prosecutors said.

Fort Myers officers found a Sig Sauer 5.56mm semi-automatic rifle and a Saiga AK-47 style 7.62mm semi-automatic rifle, high capacity magazines and ammunition while searching Felton’s home in connection with a domestic incident. Authorities also found “large quantities of heroin, sealed for distribution,” alprazolam pills and $18,000 in bundled cash.

Felton was previously convicted of selling controlled substances.
