NAPLES, Fla. – The 9-year-old chihuahua Squeaky, who got away when inmates were cleaning her cage at Collier Domestic Animal Services, was captured in a live trap at the Falling Waters Community in Naples.
Squeaky was returned to her owner Mimi Ramirez. She had been missing for more than a week.
Dozens of volunteers offered their help to get the small dog home safely, offering tips and setting traps that eventually would catch Squeaky.
She was found about a half-mile away from the shelter from which she escaped. Domestic Animal Services, which required Squeaky be microchipped, offered to refund Ramirez for the services.
Ramirez refused the offer. A volunteer is paying to have the pet chipped at her veterinarian office.
