Thieves distract couple, loot San Carlos Park home

SAN CARLOS PARK, Fla.- Thieves lured a couple out of their home and into the backyard before breaking into the house and stealing gold coins and jewelry, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Wednesday between 2 p.m.- 3 p.m., the victim says a newer model, black SUV occupied by two Hispanic females entered the driveway at the Pine Road home.

The female passenger asked the homeowner if she had received a letter regarding a wall that was supposed to be constructed in the area of the victim’s residence, officials said. The suspect then asked the homeowner to accompany her to the backyard to discuss the placement of the wall.

Once in the backyard, the suspect also asked for the victim’s husband to go outside and join the discussion, authorities said.

While both homeowners were outside, officials say the second female suspect entered the residence through the front door and took valuable items from the bedroom and bedroom closet.

The sheriff’s office reminds residents to be wary of strangers who show up at their home.

If you have any information about the suspects, call the sheriff’s office at 239-477-1840 and ask to speak to a detective.
