MGN DELTONA, Fla. (AP) – Officials say a turtle managed to survive being struck by one car on a central Florida highway and then smashing into the windshield of another. The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that the crash occurred Monday. The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 38-year-old Nicole Marie Bjanes was driving on Interstate 4 in Deltona when a car ahead of her hit the red-eared slider. The reptile went airborne and smashed into Bjanes’s windshield. Another motorist called 911. FHP spokeswoman Kim Montes says Bjanes sustained minor cuts. The turtle suffered a scuffed shell but seemed fine otherwise. A state trooper and a firefighter took the turtle to a nearby pond, and it swam away.
