SAN CARLOS PARK, Fla. — One person is dead after a single-vehicle crash that caused a roadblock for hours overnight on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway near FGCU Boulevard, Florida Highway Patrol said.
Matthew Harris, a 28-year-old from Hollywood, Florida, died from injuries suffered in the crash involving the 2003 Volvo S60 he was driving.
Traffic was blocked in both directions when the crash took place at about 1:45 a.m., and crews worked to clear the scene. Only a single southbound lane was blocked by shortly after 5 a.m., and the roadway was completely open by 6 a.m.
The wreck happened when Harris was speeding, lost control and went into the tree-lined median, an FHP official told WINK News. The Volvo overturned after hitting a tree.
