CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A Cape Coral man is in custody after allegedly bringing a gun to the football field and threatening to kill a woman Thursday at Caloosa Middle School during a Pop Warner practice, police said.

The woman told Cape Coral police that Corrye Aurelious Powell, 29, made his threat, spat in her face and chest-bumped her while at the practice before fleeing when he saw police. The woman said she spotted a gun in his pocket, and police later located a loaded .38-caliber revolver behind the concession stand, where witnesses at the school on 610 Del Prado Blvd. said they saw him run.

Powell told police that only a verbal argument took place, and that he didn’t have a gun and only showed up to watch the practice. He’s facing assault, battery and weapons charges as well as a charge of resisting arrest.

Children between the ages of 5 and 15 play in the Cape Coral Pop Warner chapter, according to its website.
