Cape Coral’s solar-powered signs try to curb speeding

Published: Updated:

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Two solar-powered speed signs have been installed on Country Club Boulevard where there have been several serious crashes and speeding complaints.

Residents call the road “Country Club Raceway.”

In the past three years, police have issued more than 70 speeding tickets and responded to nearly 40 crashes on the road.

The new signs, which cost $2,500 each, appear red when a driver passes the 35 mph speed limit and show green when a driver approaches at or below the speed limit.

Their installation at both ends of a dangerous curve on the road was initiated by the police department.

Neighbors have had mixed reactions.
