Nicole restrengthens into hurricane, threatens Bermuda

Published: Updated:

MIAMI, Fla. — Tropical Storm Nicole once more became Hurricane Nicole as of the National Hurricane Center’s 2 p.m. advisory Tuesday, packing winds of 75 mph.

Bermuda is under a hurricane warning, but Nicole is otherwise expected to arc out to sea and away from land. The system is about 335 miles south-southeast of the island and is moving northwest at 5 mph.

It’s forecast to turn toward the northeast in the coming days, putting Bermuda squarely in its sights. It’s not a threat to the continental U.S., however.

Nicole’s strength has fluctuated between tropical storm and hurricane strength over the past week as it’s meandered in the Atlantic. The latest forecast has it remaining as a hurricane for the next several days as it passes Bermuda and continues moving out to sea.
