Man guilty of lesser charge in boy’s death, gets 60 days

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) – A Tampa Bay area man has been sentenced to 60 days in jail after being convicted of a lesser charge in the death of his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son.

The Bradenton Herald reports that 27-year-old Trevor Cardarelle was sentenced Friday after jurors found him guilty of culpable negligence. He had been facing a manslaughter charge.

Authorities say Alexander Marr was beaten and left to die in his sleep at the family’s Bradenton home in April 2015. The death was ruled a homicide, and an autopsy found that the boy had suffered traumatic injuries to his head and torso.

Defense attorneys said the boy’s mother, 33-year-old Dianna Marr, was to blame for the beating. She was also charged with manslaughter and is set to go on trial in December.
