NAPLES, Fla. — Lanes are now open of Mile Marker 106 on I-75 from the Sunday night crash that killed one person.

The passenger in the right front seat of a 2008 Nissan — 34-year-old Naples resident Juan Zafra — was killed when the driver swerved off the highway and into a road sign and a tree shortly before 7:45 p.m. Sunday, according to Florida Highway Patrol. He wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

The driver — 28-year-old Elizabeth Figueroa Hernandez — and another passenger — 5-year-old Lizbeth Zafra — sustained minor injuries and have been taken to Naples Community Hospital.

Hernandez was driving in the southbound lanes and was trying to avoid a car directly in front of her when the crash happened, according to FHP. The outside southbound lane was blocked for about two hours as FHP conducted its investigation.

It’s unclear whether Hernandez will face charges.
