PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – A Punta Gorda bicyclist was killed after being hit and run over by three cars in a Thanksgiving wreck.

Robin Ann Lachman, 58, was trying to cross U.S. 41 shortly after 9 p.m. but had no lights or reflectors on her bike, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. She crossed the path of Kirt Klaholz, 71, of Punta Gorda, who was driving northbound in the inside lane of U.S. 41.

Klaholz crashed into the bicyclist, sending her flying. She landed in the street, then was run over by Jose Hernandez, 44, and passenger Zackary Holbine, 24, both of Punta Gorda, troopers said.

The crash shut down U.S. 41 at the intersection of Payne for five hours.

Lachman wasn’t wearing a helmet, troopers said. It’s unclear whether she was under the influence of alcohol.

No further information was immediately available.
