Naples tree maintenance costs surge

Published: Updated:

NAPLES, Fla. — Christmas is fast approaching, and City Council is set to discuss tree trimming. But it has nothing to do with holiday decoration.

The council is instead set to talk about a plan to spend $850,000 — nearly twice as much as last year — on the upkeep of trees that line city streets. The increased frequency of maintenance will help the trees withstand tropical storms and hurricanes and provide an aesthetic benefit, city leaders argue.
