EAST NAPLES, Fla. — A Collier County deputy received minor injuries Friday after a driver attacked him during a traffic stop.

The driver, 41-year-old Robert Harris, of 696 Pine Vale Dr., has been arrested on charges of resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer and aggravated assault.

The deputy stopped Harris for a traffic infraction Friday morning along Palm Spring Boulevard, just north of Radio Road. The deputy approached the vehicle to speak with Harris.

When he got to the vehicle, Harris then grabbed the deputy and pulled him into the vehicle where the two struggled.

The deputy tried to tase him, but Harris managed to gain control of the taser.

A Good Samaritan, who witnessed the struggle, pulled over and shouted to the deputy to offer assistance.

The deputy told the Good Samaritan to call 911 and report battery on a law enforcement officer.

Help arrived and Harris was placed under arrest. Both Harris and the deputy received minor injuries during the altercation.

The deputy was treated at the scene while Harris was transported to the hospital.
