SWFL woman preserves father’s Holocaust survival story

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — One woman is making sure to fulfill the promise to her father to never stop telling his story of survival.

Celia Rubin was in her thirties when her father, Benjamin, told her about the time he spent in multiple German concentration camps, including Auschwitz.

“My dad heard blood curdling screams in the middle of the night … but they never talked about it,” she said.

Benjamins Rubin was one of millions of Jews who were sent to concentration camps during World War II, but one of only a few who survived.

Shortly before he died, Rubin’s father shared his story through the Steven Spielberg’s Shoah Foundation Project.

“They cut off two or three of his fingers,” Celia Rubin said.

Rubin is now keeping her father’s legacy alive by telling his story at local schools and various events throughout Southwest Florida.
