Naples OKs new multimillion-dollar city dock

NAPLES, Fla. A new city dock is on its way, but it might cost more than originally thought.

City Council on Wednesday gave unanimous approval to finance the project, which could cost as much as $6.5 million. The initial estimate pegged it as a $5 million expenditure.

The $1.5 million difference is a hedge against the potential that construction crews have to stage equipment on property the city doesn’t own, according to city officials.

It’ll go in place of the existing dock at 880 12th Ave S., which will close on May 1. The new dock is expected to open by mid-December, though the fueling area may take longer, city officials said.

The existing facility opened 33 years ago, and while city leaders explored the idea of renovating it, they decided it was too far out of date.
