Maurice McKelvey. Photo via the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. PUNTA GORDA, Fla. A 33-year-old man was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing a semi-truck from Georgia, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Troopers conducted a criminal investigation after being notified about the stolen vehicle by weight inspectors at the Punta Gorda Weigh Station on Interstate 75 near mile marker 161. Maurice McKelvey, of Walterboro, South Carolina, presented the recently painted truck to troopers as a 1996 International truck with a title listing a different VIN number, the FHP said. However, further investigation revealed the truck was a 2007 International truck and troopers contacted the rightful owner. McKelvey is in custody facing a grand theft charge, which is a third degree felony.
