North Fort Myers mom adjusting to new life after losing legs

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. Dani Hagmann made it her goal to leave the hospital by Mother’s Day.

Hagmann’s legs were amputated last month after a car crashed into her near Exit 139 on Interstate 75 as she rendered aid to a driver involved in an earlier crash.

She told the driver to get in her car in case another driver lost control. Shortly after, someone did and pinned Hagmann’s legs against her own car.

“I remember all of it, unfortunately — every single minute of it,” she said.

After spending 20 days in the hospital, Hagmann is adjusting to her new life and is happy to spend time with her five children.

However, she does admit there’s still some things she needs to get used to.

“That realization that I do have limits now is kind of hard for me,” Hagmann said.

Hagmann is currently staying at her parents’ house until her home is remodeled. The renovations include expanding doorways, installing ramps, raising floors and redoing bathrooms.

“I just miss being home,” she said.

Hagmann is doing physical therapy from her parents’ house.

The renovation on her home is scheduled to be completed in two weeks.
