Naples teen celebrates newfound American citizenship

NORTH NAPLES, Fla. Gabriela Tulbure is now an American citizen.

Mrs. Kelly Parker, a music teacher at Pine Ridge Middle School, had the class play a patriotic song in honor of the 14-year-old’s newfound citizenship.

“We are so proud to be a part and celebrate her, and to be able to celebrate our nation everyday,” Parker said.

The 14-year-old girl moved to Naples with her brother six years ago from Moldova, a small eastern European country. Her mother came to the states 10 years ago.

“I want other people who came from other countries to feel the same way like I did when I became a citizen,” Gabriela said.

Gabriela feels like her family grew after she came to the U.S.

“(Mrs. Parker)’s my favorite teacher, and she’s like family to me,” Gabriela said.

Parker called Gabriela “the all-American girl” and enjoys helping students like her because it’s part of her job.

“If you’re really married to the profession, and you really love teaching, all of your kids belong to you in a certain way,” Parker said.
