Surveillance video shows burglars lurking through a neighborhood, smashing their way into cars.
Neighbors in San Carlos Park woke up to damages to their cars Monday.
“I see my window broken in,” Aiden Collins said. “I see that they fiddled into my center piece and stuff, but it’s just unfortunate.”
Collins takes no comfort in the fact that he’s not the only victim.
“There was like six or seven of us,” said Sam Haskins, Collins’ friend. “The truck down there, the truck down here, a couple of cars down here, all just in a row like getting hit.”
Neighbors say Lee County sheriff’s deputies went door-to-door asking neighbors if they heard anything overnight or knew about the smash-and-grab.
Collins told us he felt violated by what happened, and seeing it on surveillance makes it worse.
“Just recently I saw it on camera,” Collins said. “And it’s a lot different for when you see the four guys out here actually snooping through your things, breaking your window. Up there, they go stealing my stuff and just walking off.”
We asked Lee County Sheriff’s Office about how many cars were hit and how many victims. But we have only been told its an open investigation, and deputies are working to get answers.
Neighbors said they may have a solution to stop or reduce the risk of this happening.
“I guess more street lights or something,” Jake Waits said. “I don’t know if there is a neighborhood watch thing. I’m assuming it’s not. But a streetlight would be a good start.”
