In a recent report, the FBI ranks the City of Cape Coral as one of the safest places to raise a child in the country.

Carolina Souza is thinking of moving her family of four from Fort Myers to Cape Coral. With safety as her priority, Souza is happy to hear Cape Coral made the list of the 50 safest cities to raise a child in 2019.

SafeWise, a consumer review site, ranked cities according to violent and property crimes, number of sex offenders, along with graduation rates relative to their population. Cape Coral ranked 45, which does not surprise Jennifer Karkoza.

“I feel pretty safe in the three years I’ve been here,” Karkoza said. “I haven’t had any negative experiences.”

Cape Coral Police Dept. Master Corporal Phil Mullen said this city has been among the safest in the country for years. He points out Cape Coral ranks first in safety in regards to violent crimes. A current focus for the department is to lower property crime numbers, which he said starts with citizens locking their vehicles.

Master Cpl. Mullen said kids are rarely the victims of crimes in Cape Coral. But we can all play a role in keeping them safe at school, to keep the Cape as one of the safest in the country.

“Make sure you follow the traffic laws,” Master Cpl. Mullen said. “Make sure you look out for kids waiting at the bus stop.”
