A nearby camera caught the moment two vehicles collided at US-41 and Pondella Road in North Fort Myers on Sept. 9. A 7-year-old boy from North Fort Myers who was injured in a car crash on Sept. 9 has died. He had been hospitalized after his mother ran a red light at North Cleveland Avenue and Pondella Road in North Fort Myers, causing an oncoming pickup to slam into their sedan, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The child was not wearing a seat belt in the back seat of the car at the time of the crash. His mother was also critically injured, but her current condition is unavailable. The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash remains under investigation and any charges are pending. They no longer release the names of crash victims, citing Marsy’s Law.
