Volunteer Cindy Lastovica loaded backpacks filled with school supplies into a parent’s car during the 2020 BIG Backpack Event Charlotte County is holding a drive-thru Back 2 School Backpack Giveaway Saturday. 500 free backpacks will be given to the first 350 students in kindergarten through fifth grade, and the first 150 students in grades six through 12. It starts at 9 a.m. at the Centennial Park baseball field parking lot at 1185 Centennial Blvd. in Port Charlotte. And in Fort Myers, new backpacks, school supplies and food will be given to the first 2,000 students who show up to their giveaway on Sunday. It’s only for students ages five to 12. The event goes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fort Myers Skatium at 2250 Broadway Ave.
