Events with free school supplies, food for students over July 24 weekend

Charlotte County is holding a drive-thru Back 2 School Backpack Giveaway Saturday. 500 free backpacks will be given to the first 350 students in kindergarten through fifth grade, and the first 150 students in grades six through 12. It starts at 9 a.m. at the Centennial Park baseball field parking lot at 1185 Centennial Blvd. in Port Charlotte.

Children must be present to receive a backpack and all families must remain in their vehicles. For information, contact Jill Boyd at (941) 681-3760 or Jill.Boyd@CharlotteCountyFL.gov.

And in Fort Myers, new backpacks, school supplies and food will be given to the first 2,000 students who show up to their giveaway on Sunday. It’s only for students ages five to 12. The event goes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fort Myers Skatium at 2250 Broadway Ave.
