A new playground at Big Corkscrew Island Regional Park in Golden Gate Estates is finally open after delays due to supply shortages.

And it’s a big win for the community.

Parents who live in the area got used to not having a playground around since it’s hard to miss what you never have.

Other plans for the park include fields for recreational sports, an outdoor and indoor gym, kayak & canoe launch, a community center, concession pavilions, an aquatics center and more.

But now that it’s there, parents, caregivers, and especially the kids can’t contain their excitement.

Sloan Mount was at the park Thursday enjoying nice weather and big playground with her kids. “Honestly it feels really good, I’ve lived out here over 10 years and I never thought they would have anything like this out here

.”

This mother of three said she has already taken her kids there 10 times.
And Big Corkscrew Island Regional Park playground just opened this week.

The $48 million phase-one project is almost completed.

Park supervisor, Randi Hopkins said COVID slowed things down but now work is back on track.

“This is an amenity they’ve wanted for 20 years and its finally coming to fruition,”

 he said.

This is the biggest playground in Collier County, and right next to it is the aquatic center. Work is expected to be complete on that, along with a new community center by spring. The address is 810 39th Ave NE.
