A woman and a man have been arrested Friday as suspects in multiple North Port arsons from the last few weeks.

The North Port Police Department says it has been investigating fires that were started in a mostly undeveloped area in the northeast portion of the city. Aaliyah Stone, 18, and David Moore, 30, were arrested after investigators say they found the two were buying fireworks, like Roman candles, locally and shooting them into the woods.

Stone and Moore face multiple charges, including eight counts of malicious land burning. No damage to any structures occurred.

North Port Police spokesman Josh Taylor said, “We started to see what appeared to be used fireworks, roaming candles at the scene of around where these fires started. So that was certainly concerning. So, we began the investigation into local establishments that sell these types of products. And that ultimately led us to some potential suspects.”
