Woman dies in Lehigh Acres crash after pickup drives through red turning signal

A 67-year-old Lehigh Acres woman died in a vehicle crash in Lehigh Acres early Saturday morning.

The woman was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old Lehigh Acres woman. The driver suffered serious injuries, while a 17-year-old boy, also of Lehigh, suffered critical injuries.

The vehicle was traveling west on Lee Boulevard when a pickup traveling east, driven by a 28-year-old Fort Myers man, turned front of it at Alvin Avenue, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol. FHP said the pickup had a red arrow traffic signal.

A vehicle crash at Lee Blvd. and Alvin Ave. killed one person early Saturday morning.

The driver of the pickup was not injured.

The crash closed the intersection for some time as troopers investigated.

The crash remains under investigation.
