An SUV’s driver left the road and hit a man on a bicycle before shooting him and driving off on Saturday, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
According to deputies, two men were riding bikes along Shadowlawn Drive when they heard the sound of a car behind them. Deputies say the men heard the car leave the road, but before they could react, it hit one of them, knocking them both to the ground.
The sheriff’s office says the two men then got up and began to run away when the person in the SUV got out and shot one of the men in the back of the leg. The shooter then got back into the SUV and drove off.
The man shot in the leg was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Deputies say the victims believe the SUV intentionally left the road to hit them. The victims said they saw the SUV drive past them in the opposite direction before it circled around behind them at a high rate of speed.
In an incident report, one victim provided information about the shooter that they saw, but that information was redacted from the report.
The sheriff’s office said there is a person of interest in the shooting, but the incident report did not mention any suspects or a description of the shooter.
