Monday starts workweek with record heat, scattered storms

Published: Updated:

Above-average heat is in the forecast, as highs will likely reach the mid- to high 90s across most of Southwest Florida. High humidity will also make the entire WINK News viewing area feel like it’s experiencing triple-digit heat.

Boaters will have pleasant conditions on the water if they can dodge any storms. 1- to 2-foot wave heights and a light chop within our bays are forecast. Scattered storms will likely form after lunchtime.

After a mostly dry morning, a few isolated storms will begin forming in the early afternoon. These thunderstorms will increase in strength and coverage in the late afternoon and evening. Most of them should stay below severe limits. Damaging winds, isolated flooding and lightning will be the primary threats with our strongest storms.

There is only one disturbance that the Weather Authority is monitoring. It is in the Eastern Atlantic and has a low (30%) chance of formation over the next five days. This unorganized area of disturbed weather is still roughly 3,000 miles away from Southwest Florida and is of no immediate threat to us. For now, we will continue to keep an eye on it this week. The next name on the 2022 storm naming list is Danielle.
