The Sanibel Captiva Community Bank has set up shop in its parking lot to give customers the service they deserve even when times are tough.

The bank’s main branch has been operating with the help of a boat to get to Sanibel because the causeways are still unavailable for residents.

The bank first opened in 2003 in Sanibel, before spreading to mainland Southwest Florida.

Six of the eight remain open, but the main branch off of Periwinkle Way is closed on the inside but open on the outside. They have set up shop with a table and tent in the parking lot.

Craig Albert, CEO of Sanibel Captiva Community Bank said, “The team is fantastic, we’ve had multiple boat rides out here bringing supplies and food, were grilling hotdogs and hamburgers for the islanders here.”

Albert lives in Sanibel, where the storm also devastated his home.

“We’ve been trying to provide some hope here. We’re open, we’ve got people who cashed some checks,” Albert said.

It could be months before things get back to normal on Periwinkle Way, until then the teams going to try to do a little every day to help their customer stay in business by lending money.

“Every business owner we’ve talked to has a fantastic attitude that they’re going to come back and that Sanibel is going back bigger, better, and stronger. It’s just going to be a lot of work. there is quite a bit of devastation out here but we’ll be fine, it’s just going to take time,” Albert said.

Crews continue to gut the inside of Sanibel Captiva Community Bank and they are going to open as soon as they can.
