According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 28-year-old Port Charlotte man was driving a motorcycle north on US-41, south of Melbourne Street around 10:30 p.m. A 50-year-old Punta Gorda woman was traveling ahead of the motorcycle. The motorcycle rear-ended the car in the outside lane, throwing the man off. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
