Police have responded to a Lehigh Acres lake after divers found skeletal remains in it.

On Thursday, recreational divers discovered skeletal remains while diving in the lake on Oakridge Circle near Joel Boulevard in Lehigh Acres.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Dive Team immediately responded and have remained at this location into the afternoon.

Multiple LCSO assets and technology, such as the marine unit, underwater drones and forensic technicians, were brought in to assist.

According to LCSO, these skeletal remains could be “historically significant.” This investigation will take some time, as great care is being given to the bones.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno has ensured that the highest care and compassion will be given in the recovery efforts.
