Convicted double murderer Wade Wilson wants a new trial.

His attorneys filed the motion on Monday.

This comes after a Lee County jury recommended Wilson be put to death for killing Kristine Melton and Diane Ruiz just hours apart in 2019 in Cape Coral.

The trial took years to begin after several delays, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

Five years after Melton and Ruiz were murdered, on June 25, a jury of Wilson’s peers recommended the judge sentence him to death. It took that jury less than 2 hours, including lunch.

They voted 9-to-3 in favor of the death penalty for the murder of Melton and 10-to-2 for the slaying of Ruiz.

A judge is set to sentence Wilson later this month.
