The victim in a deadly crash that occurred in Cape Coral on Wednesday afternoon has been identified as 15-year-old Kendra Ahrens.

Cape Coral Police Department said the teen was riding her bike along Santa Barbara Boulevard and Mid Cape Terrace when she was struck by a U.S. Mail Carrier box truck.

Her parents told WINK News that she was a varsity cheerleader at Mariner High. She worked at Sun Splash for the summer and was on her way home at the time of the collision.

Friends described her as “…a sweet and bubbly girl.” They went on to say, “Her life got cut too soon. She was loved by so many people.”

Joey Milligan, who works at the Tropical Breeze Fun Park nearby, explained some putt-putt golfers heard the crash between the bike and truck.

“We had one three-person group here at the time of the incident,” said Milligan. “They didn’t see anything, but they definitely heard brakes, crash, and they wondered what was up. They didn’t hear any of the sirens yet because it was still kind of fresh. It just happened.”

A memorial for the victim was erected overnight near the crash site as the community unraveled the reality of this terrible loss. It has since continued to grow.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
